Polish and UI


This week, I worked on getting my game ready for the playtest on Friday. I set up the scoring for both the player and the AI, which I struggled with for quite a while. I tried a few different ways to do it before finally finding a very simple solution that took about half an hour to implement and get working. I also got the random spawning working to give the game more variance than just the different maps, so you don't just find the fastest way to win on each map immediately. 

I got some good feedback during the testing sessions with some suggestions to add a pause menu, multiplayer and power-ups. The pause menu, I may be able to add them this week, but multiplayer and power-ups are probably out of reach for the final week. If time permits, multiplayer would be the easier addition. I also got some feedback from Lindsay suggesting a change to shooting by either adding a health mechanic or nerfing the player's fire rate. I instead decided to keep the fire rate but nerf the number of bullets that can be fired until the current bullets disappear. This allows the player to still shoot out a volley of shots, but if all of them miss, they have to run before the AI catches them.

Next week, I will set up the main menu and a game over screen that displays once the player or the AI has met the score threshold, with a button to reload the game.
